The By 2015:AMERICA Platform
By 2015: ALASKA is an Anchorage-based grassroots organization that seeks to unite with other grassroots organization to address ending childhood hunger in America by 2015. We are not waiting upon Congress or the President to take the initiative. We believe this is THE Cause of this generation. Here is our Platform.
1) Encourage Universal Breakfast and Lunch inside local schools. A national program, funded by the Federal government, already exists to feed our children two meals every school day. According to the USDA, in 2008 alone, it averaged 31 million meals per school day. However, this in no way reflects the need. The Food Research and Action Center estimates that States leave AT LEAST $579 million dollars (which is apart of the Congressional budget) on the table by not encouraging greater participation in the national breakfast program. (www.frac.org) See “Breakfast Scorecard.”
2) Increase After-School Snack Participation. Again, this is provided by the Federal government and is apart of the Congressional budget. We do not have to re-invent the wheel, just utilize what is already available.
3) Inspire Kid’s Kitchen-style dinner programs. Each neighborhood should find a grandmother or grandfather, whom they trust to feed the children in that neighborhood. The neighborhood should fully finance this program by either, a) giving the grandmother or grandfather money, b) buying the grandmother or grandfather groceries or 3) growing food and donating it to the dinner program. In 12 years, Mr. Elgin Jones was able to provide 1,000,000 meals and earn a photo in People magazine. Every State should have a Mr. Elgin Jones.
Recently, the By2015 Movement in Anchorage, collaborated with the K-FAT (92.9) to conduct a peanut butter drive while Naughty By Nature was in town. (November 11, 2010)

FYI – Since the lives of 16.7 million children are on the line, we at By 2015: Alaska are not really concerned about copyright infringements or credit. Please choose to DO SOMETHING! Spread this email far and wide, throughout your network. Listen to the attached audio with your family and friends. Most of all, organize your community and make sure the children that you come in contact with are filled with nutritious food.
